AMX-004 Qubeley

AMX-004 Qubeley is Haman Karn's personal mobile suit, introduced in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985, U.C. 0087) and carried through Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986, U.C. 0088). Axis Zeon built it for Newtype use, and it is the first combat mobile suit to carry a psycommu system small enough for an ordinary-sized machine.

What it does in the story

The Qubeley appears near the end of the Gryps Conflict, where Haman flies it against Quattro Bajeena's Hyaku Shiki and comes out clearly ahead. It stays her machine through the First Neo Zeon War, and her last fight in it is the duel with Judau Ashta's Enhanced ZZ Gundam.

What makes it different

Ten funnels live in the rear armour.
The funnels are steered through the psycommu and are smaller than the Elmeth's bits because they have no generator, running on capacitors and returning to recharge. Storing them in a container in the movable rear armour makes launch and recovery quicker; the earlier Prototype Qubeley kept its funnels inside a 25 m body.

Four shoulder binders give it eight limbs.
Two binders sit on each shoulder, move independently and assist the AMBAC system, which is where the Qubeley's mobility comes from. They lack the full range of an arm or leg but bring the count of movable limbs to eight, and they house the suit's main thrusters.

It has two eyes, not one.
Where most Zeon suits use a single mono-eye camera, the Qubeley carries a dual-type optical sensor, which makes it one of the first Zeon machines to drop the mono-eye.

The forearm guns are also sabers.
Each forearm holds a dual-purpose beam gun that doubles as a beam saber, firing from the same emitter that produces the blade when the weapon is drawn.
